Season 2011/12

Following a friendly, autumnal match against Kinsale, the prospect of entering the Munster Winter League was raised over a pint by the Kinsale players who spoke enthusiastically of the experience. As the closing date for entry was in two days time, a flurry of phone calls secured sufficient interest for one team to be registered at Grade 5 level.

Twelve players eventually registered, the intention being to give everyone an opportunity to play, which they did.

Ladies: Hilary Bennett, Elaine Connolly, Mary Evans, Carol Hayes, Josie O'Brien and Mary O'Regan.

Gents: Paul Dykes, Bernard Hayes, Eddie Hayes,Tom Scanlon, Nick Smith, Kieran White.

The opponents were Tralee and Crosshaven, the away visit to Tralee being a rude awakening to the necessity of playing in gale-force wind and driving rain after a long journey and the need to have an extended warm up.

The season's final tally: Played - 4, Won - 0. Drawn - 1, Lost - 3.

Winning and losing aside, the general consensus was that it was a tremendous experience and paved the way for renewed interest the following year. It was agreed that a coaching programme would be relevant before the next foray into the Winter League.
